Giving the Givers

NYC, the city that never sleeps, has completely changed in the blink of an eye. When people think of NYC, they think crowded subways, fun nightlife, and great restaurants. The past month here has been anything but that. The packed morning subway you’re accustomed to taking is empty, your favorite bar has shut down indefinitely, and your local restaurants are struggling to survive. Social distancing is the new normal. People won’t go outside without masks and gloves. Nurses and doctors are working around the clock as the virus continues to spread.

A few nights ago, after a run along the East River, I walked past the NYU hospital on 34th and 1st as a few nurses just ended their shift. They didn’t look tired, but rather physically and emotionally exhausted, as I only could imagine the chaos occurring in the building. I proceeded to give a few restaurants a call to get some dinner, and to no surprise, most were closed or were limiting their hours of operation. After personally witnessing this daily struggle for both health care workers and restaurants firsthand, I decided to take some action.

This fundraiser is dual purposed:

1. To provide support for local businesses.

2. To thank and show appreciation for the nurses and doctors who are         working around the clock in our local hospital to keep us safe.

As many people do in NYC, my roommates and I have our favorite restaurants and delis that we consistently go back to time and time again. All funds raised will be used to purchase food from local restaurants and deliver meals to local hospital where employees work long shifts, risking their own health for the health of others.

Please help me reach my goal so the health workers know they are not alone in this fight!
