ALS - Give Patty A Voice

Donation protected
Patty Schoeppner went to the doctor in July of 2013 for slurred speech and was later dignosed with ALS. Since she was diagnosed, her slurred speech has progressed to the point where she is not understandable and she is losing the ability to swallow. She is also losing motor control as her muscles start to atrophy. She is progressively losing her balance and will soon have to be fitted with a power wheelchair and a wheelchair accessible van to get to appointments.

Our first goal is to give Patty her voice back.  Electronic Communication Aids are very expensive and soon Patty will be unable to type as well, so this will be her only means of communicating.  Patty and her husband Rich will also have astronomical medical bills.

ALS is a devastating disease that robs the patient of their body while leaving them with a perfect mind and no way to express themselves.

Patty has always been bubbly and happy and continues to stay positive and have an upbeat attitude.  She has always been a caregiver to others such as her father-in-law and until recently had her 94 year old mother living with her as well. It's time we take care of Patty.

ALS is at the forefront of people's minds right now with the social media Ice Bucket Challenge. If you want to donate to an ALS patient in lieu of donating to the ALSA, it would be greatly appreciated to help Patty regain the ability to express herself and to defray some of the costs associated with her illness.  For those of you who do not prefer to donate over the internet, you can go to any First Merit Bank and make a donation to the Patricia D. Schoeppner Benevolent fund.  Thank You!
