Chance is a smart, loving puppy who is currently very ill and in need of a liver procedure to salvage his life. For this reason, Chance and I are seeking your support in assisting me to cover the cost of this procedure and to Give Chance a Chance!
Chance's Story:
I found Chance on the playground of the school at which I work. He was hungry, tired, dirty (he had gum stuck to his chest!), and in need of a loving home.
After two weeks of trying to identify the perfect family for Chance, we noticed that, even though he was growing, he was failing to put on any weight. When we took him to the vet, we found out he had worms and had many foreign objects stuck in his intestines - requiring immediate surgery. At this time, in order for Chance to live, I assumed full responsibility for him and his medical needs. Although Chance's surgery went well, the vet noticed he had a difficult time recovering from anesthesia and mentioned the possibility of a liver disorder.
The morning we went back to the vet for his post-operation check-up, Chance began having multiple seizures, caused by an excess of toxins in his blood stream. The vet diagnosed Chance as having a liver shunt, similar to Hepatitis in humans, that can potentially be fatal if untreated.
Since then, we've made multiple attempts for Chance's liver shunt to be treated. We traveled to Knoxville, TN for surgery, but after complications under anesthesia, Chance had to be woken up. The veterinarians we have been working with have recommended an alternative procedure to correct Chance's shunt - one that is safer and has a higher rate of success in dogs with similar needs. Now we have several weeks to raise the additional funds for Chance's procedure.
