As we get ready to gather with the ones we care for and love on Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and the slew of other upcoming holidays and celebrations, we are often overwhelmed by the trivial tings and overlook our dearest and most obvious blessings: the people around us.
For one particular family in Virginia Beach this holiday season, this often overlooked privilege is no longer available.
A seat at the holiday table is now empty: a daughter is no longer there (an only child at that), a granddaughter is no longer there, a mother is no longer there, a wife is no longer there, a friend is no longer there.
All these roles were played by one person who lost her fight with Glioblastoma at 32 years old on November 20th, just days from her mother's birthday and Thanksgiving.
As some of you may know, Gigi Steward was an alumni of Princess Anne Highschool, and ODU University. She had a great sense of humor and loved her cowboys. Her laugh still rings in our memories and her light will carry through in our hearts.
Though nothing can fill the vast void Gigi has left behind - the lasting sting of her absence may be lessened as we all chip in to help her family cover medical bills, home care expenses, and daycare for the incredibly sweet 4 year old Sophie missing her mommy.
Your donation, whatever its size, will not only be a huge surprise to the unexacting family, but will also serve as a reminder of what the holidays are truly about.
