Dear Friends,My name is Joseph Newton, an 18-year-old double bassist from Dallas, Texas. I will be starting my undergraduate degree at the New England Conservatory in the Fall studying with Lawrence Wolfe of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. I am a recent graduate of the Booker T Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. After one of my lessons in early February with my former private instructor, Dwight Shambley, he sat me down in his studio and said as nicely as possible, "Joseph, you need a new bass." Right after he said this to me his wife walked in and bluntly said, "That bass will not do it for you in college Joseph. You need a new one." I quickly came to the conclusion that I would not be able to win the competitions I entered, play the pieces I wanted to play, or get the jobs I wanted with the current bass I have - put plainly and simply, I would not have the career I have always dreamt of, which is to become a section bass player in a major symphony orchestra one day. In recent searching, I found the perfect instrument for me, an American made bass from Robertson and Son's Violin shop - it is considerably out of my price range as a student working on my undergraduate school degrees. I'm convinced that this is the bass that will one day get me my orchestral job and will be the partner I need on stage to make the most of my professional performing career.
After finding this bass, I realized I would not be able to raise funds on my own. As a classical musician adapting to the ever-changing world of technology, I'm hoping that I've found a fantastic program to help me organize funding the bass: GoFundME, a web-based organization designed to help anyone raise money for a cause they feel passionate about. This program will be an awesome way to assist me in funding this new bass (which would be nearly impossible for me to fund on my own). My dear friend Hannah said, "It's time for a big boy bass," so I am asking you today to help me get this "big boy bass."

UPDATE:

I have received my bass  and have been playing on it for the past three years AND I LOVE IT . We have successfully paid off it’s balance and it’s entirety. Thank you all so much for the help and support. I am still going through school at the New England Conservatory going into my last semester  and all of the scholarship has run out so I’m looking to come back to this platform again and see if I can find any help in anyway from anyone again anything that is given is greatly appreciated and is going towards my education to further my career as a musician.

Anything will help!
This bass will cost me $10,500, and I'm not expecting to reach this goal entirely through donations. I write to you today to please consider supporting this cause and pledging what you can  for my new bass  and to help find my college tuition.
Thank you already for taking the time to look at my campaign!
