Medical Fund for Wilderness

As many of you know, Wilderness's condition has been declining considerably for the past several years. Over a year ago her disabilities prevented her from being able to work, causing her to lose her health insurance as well as her source of income. While she did obtain a diagnosis from a Rheumatoligist at Duke University, the condition, HLA-B27 related autoimmune diseases, are very rare and little is known about their exacerbations, daily management, or treatment.

Over the last year her chemical sensitivies have continued to worsen. In the last several months they have become so severe that she has been unable to leave the house in an effort to prevent exposure to exogenous substances. These exposures alter her mental state, her immune function, and typically cascade into migraines, severe vertigo, slurred speach, and blurred vision. Unfortunately, this leads to a very solitary existence and renders maintaining relationships with friends and family impossible.

As many of you are aware, we are heading back to The Pacific Northwest. While we are saddened to leave the community we created in The South, we are excited to return to the community that we left 5 years ago. We are very excited to see all of the friends and family that we have back home; however, it will undoubtedly be difficult to manage her sensitivities and will make spending time with loved ones nearly impossible.

Wilderness has persued several methods of medical treatment for this condition and has recently been seeing a new practitioner, that she gets along with very well. This practitioner has high hopes that she can help Wilderness control her chemical sensitivities and keep them at a manageable level. While HLA-B27 is a genetic abnormality and is uncureable, we are hoping to be able to maintain a more manageable baseline and foster a more healthy existence for Wilderness.

The cost of these treatments and associated daily management has become un doable for Wilderness in her current financial state.  Our hope is that with continued treatment she will be able to control her sensitivity, build a stronger baseline level of health, and be able to enjoy our future more personally with friends and family.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Feel free to share and repost this and warm thoughts and good vibes are free and welcomed! Thank you.
