Geoff Lambert's Final Wish

The ugly truth is that my uncle, Geoff Lambert, only has about a week left with us..My heart breaks for him and his family and like many others I am left wondering what I can do to help?? Send another casserole dish, a nicely worded card, or even hop on a plane to say good bye? Unfortunately, I am quickly learning that there are no words, no combination of foods... there is nothing that I can, by myself do, that will truly make a difference.. At least that is what I thought before I sat and talked with Geoff while in the hospital last week.

Geoff is a "Lambert" through and through. He joked about his upcoming trip to the other side as if he was simply going on a vacation with his buddies. His lighthearted view on what is, in my opinion, the scariest realization a person can come to -- I am going to die -- allowed us to have a sincere discussion about what I could do to help.

He explained to me that the last 20 years had not been easy for him, his wife Lisa, or his two children, James and Michelle. Financially, not being able to work and the almost weekly trips to the hospital truly put a toll on any savings they once had. Throw in Lisa's battle with cancer a few years ago and it is easy to understand how a family can find itself in financial turmoil. While at the hospital Geoff said to me that he would love to see his children go to college and know that he helped them get there.

He then asked me for my help.

I wish that I had the tens of thousands of dollars necessary to send my two cousins to college, however, like most of you I can only put a very small dent in that cost. If you are like me and wondering what I can do to help... please help me give Geoff his last wish!
