Send Liberty to New York City!
Please read our original note below, but now the trip will include scholars from Liberty's programs at Niagara Falls High School, North Tonawanda High School, and Lockport High School. We are very exctied about this trip and we say the more, the merrier!
Let us introduce ourselves: We are the Liberty scholars of Gaskill Preparatory School in Niagara Falls, New York. Liberty Partnerships is a during- and after-school program that we participate in that is funded by the New York State Department of Education specifically for dropout prevention and career preparedness. Us scholars are some of those identified as "at-risk" youth, but we choose to see that as an advantage. In Liberty, we get extra help and amazing opportunities. Many of us have transformed our report cards and our behavioral records since last year with the help of Liberty. The reason we are fundraising is that we really want to go on a big trip, and we currently don't have enough money in our budget. We agreed as a class that we really want to go to New York City, and that we would work very hard to raise the money to get there.
You may be wondering why we deserve to go to New York City. The truth is, most of us have never been far from home. We don't always love things in our home city of Niagara Falls, but we are doing our best to become a part of it and change what needs to be changed. We know that together, we can make a difference. Right now, we are working on a mural that will help beautify downtown and we hope to paint many more. We would love to get inspiration from New York to carry home with us. In fact, we would love to bring home all of the stories, memories, culture, and history that New York has to offer. We also view this trip as a great reward. We have promised to get at LEAST a 70 average in all of our classes, have a 90% attendance rate, and have no serious behavioral incidents this school year. Anyone who does not meet these requirements has not earned the trip. Lastly, we deserve this trip because we are willing to work our very hardest to take it.
We may be a non-profit organization, but we aren't a charity-case. We are working to do our absolute best. But we also know that sometimes even the best people need help. We know that great athletes would be nothing without their teammates and coaches. We know that even the president needs a support team to help him run the country. We also know that some of the greatest activists throughout history wouldn't have been half as great without the great support of their communities. No, we are not any of those things:yet. But we could be one day! It is opportunities like this trip that will bring us growth, leave us inspired, and help us help others. We want to be the best leaders and scholars we can be. This is where you come in! Whether you know one of us directly or are a perfect stranger, you can help. If you can give money to sponsor us, we appreciate it tremendously!
