Garth's Diagnosis and Treatment

Donation protected
Garth, otherwise known as Big Guy, is 37 years old and the son of Peter Moodie (Jacko) & Marie de Montagnac. He is a father to Mark, partner to Alicia Smith and our brother. Garth is a passionate enthusiast of Motorsports and an active and integral member of the NGRacing team, where the young drivers are mentored and trained on GoKarts and Rally/Race cars.

Over the years, Garth has been faced with many medical challenges, the root cause of which has yet to be determined. Garth is a private person, who does not believe in imposing on anyone, and often times he would suffer in silence. He  was diagnosed with Gout at an early age and has been plagued with swelling in his legs and feet. As a result of this, he was often unable to stand for long periods of time. Over the past two years, pressure sores and ulcers have appeared on his feet and are not healing. Exhaustive testing was done to determine the cause of the affliction, but all tests were inconclusive. The last blood test that was administered showed alarming results. Garths body had begun to expel the protein needed by his body and as a result or the cause, his kidneys have been damaged. As it was recognized that his condition began to progress rapidly, and the resources in Jamaica were exhausted, swift action was taken and Garth was sent to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Our hope is that with intensive attention and testing, we may finally have a diagnosis, and with that, a plan of attack.

To date Garth has had the following tests:
Blood work, Ultrasounds of Legs, EMG, Chest X-ray, Kidney Biopsy, Abdominal Fat Aspirate, Auotonomic Reflex testing, CT scans, Skin punch Biopsy, Sensory testing, Foot x-ray, ultrasound of neck, and a nerve biopsy.

As of now, we have been able to rule out Amyloidosis (YAY!), and as a result of the Kidney Biopsy have labeled Nephrotic Syndrome secondary to minimal change disease and Neuropathy (undetermined etiology).

Garth has been a trooper thus far, being poked and prodded on a daily basis it seems. He is being well taking care by our Aunt who tirelessly takes him to all of the tests and facilities.

As the tests continue, so do the rising costs. We are asking for assistance in anyway possible to offset some of his medical expenses. We are deeply concerned and we need your help.
