Galapagos Volunteer Trip!

Hello everyone! I am a double major in Environmental Science and Biology graduating Spring 2015 from Eastern Washington University. I have been looking for opportunities to enhance my knowledge, make a difference in the issues I'm passionate about, and travel somewhere amazing after graduation. I have found the perfect program that will allow me to do just that!
The Hacienda Tranquila volunteer program focuses not only on removing invasive plant species and replacing them with endemic ones, thus restoring the habitat of the threatened Galapagos Tortoise, but also concentrates on community outreach and education. Community outreach involves education, fun activities, and therapeutic horseback riding for underprivileged and/or disabled Galapagos native children, and education/help for local farmers. (Below is a link to the volunteer program website for even more information). The funds would allow me to volunteer for two weeks. Additional weeks cost $150/week, so if I surpass my goal enough I would like to stay for one month.
I am extremely passionate about participating in this program. I started riding horses at 5 years old, and would love the opportunity to introduce children to the wonderful experience that being around horses provides. As a future environmental scientist, I fully understand the importance of community eduation for conserving natural resources and look forward to participating in outreach education programs. Traveling to the Galapagos has been a dream of mine since middle school Biology class, and to be able to help save that amazing ecosystem while experiencing the native culture first hand would be a priceless experience.
