DACA Renewal Fund

Donation protected
DACA recipients and their families in our community and our nation need your help.  On Sept. 5th, the administration announced that the DACA program has been rescinded.  Congress has 6 months to act before the program ends completely, but there is certainly no guarantee.

This is a local and national tragedy.  800,000 young Americans are being told they do not have a right to exist in this country, their home.   No new applicants will be accepted, and the program will be over in 6 months.  DACA recipients must renew their DACA status every two years, at the cost of $495 every time.  It is a completely self-funded program.

Anyone whose DACA will expire between now and March 5th must renew their DACA status NOW.  October 5th is the deadline for all renewals.  That provides 2 more years of DACA protection.  For those who have a DACA expiration date of March 6, 2018 and beyond, their protection ends on that date.

When DACA expires, recipients lose the rights that most of us access daily.  In Indiana, these include the rights to:

Obtain Work
Have a Driver’s License
Pursue Higher Education
Buy a home

In other words, they are stripped of their rights to exist in this country, their home.  Not only have they been told they don't matter, they have been forced into coming up with $495 right now to extend their protection.

That is where you come in. Greater Lafayette Immigrant Allies is raising funds to help DACA  Dreamers get their renewals filed by the October 5th deadline. Funds will be made available to non-profit groups helping Dreamers renew.  The LUM Immigration Clinic and the Indiana Undocumented Youth Alliance are two such groups.

Dreamers in our community are studying at places like Purdue and Ivy Tech, finishing high school, and working to support themselves and their families.  Not having a future in this community and country is absolutely unacceptable.  Please dig deep and know that you are helping a Dreamer to have two more years of BASIC rights.

Donations here will contribute to a fund to help DACA Renewals. GLIA is a non-profit and your contribution is tax deductible.  Besides giving generously, please do the following to help #defendDACA:

Contact your Representatives in Congress and demand they sign on to the Dream Act and comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship.  DACA was only ever a band-aid.

Contact your State Representatives and tell them to #defendDACA and support in-state tuition for ALL Indiana residents regardless of their documentation.

Join forces with local groups like GLIA and larger groups like IUYA and United We Dream.  Be active and look for ways to help.  If you know a Dreamer and/or undocumented Hoosiers, reach out with words and deeds of support.
