Help send our GHS Odyssey of the Mind team to Worlds!
Our second year Odyssey of the Mind team placed second at the CT State Tournament and has qualified for the World Finals at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, from May 22 - 27. Our team will compete in the Balsa problem "Animal House“ Problem 4 - Division 3. This fabulous team consists of jumior, Shira Mann and sophmores Madeleine Macora, Ashwin Sivamohan and Tolic Shterk. The team is coached by GHS teacher Lisa Fancher.
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.
For their performance, they designed and built a balsa wood tower, based on an animal, to support as much weight as possible while also supporting 3 food items. The team also wrote the script, designed and created the sets and props.
We are extremely honored to have come so far and we need YOUR support to get to Ames, Iowa. Our team needs people who are willing to donate money, like YOU to help us accomplish our goal. We strongly appreciate your consideration.
Your involvement would make this year's OOTM World Championship possible for us. Our financial goal is to raise $5,000. We will be holding some community fundraisers but, we have a long way to go. Your donation will help GHS´s team with travel and lodging expenses for four team members and their coach as well as registration fees for our team.
