In October 2018 Natalie, Bianca & Stephen will be embarking on a mission trip that they are calling ‘GENERATiONS Goes2Africa’. The destination will be Livingstone (Zambia), where they will be Volunteering under the umbrella of one of the leading organisations, African Impact & sister charity The Happy Africa Foundation. An achievable target of £5,000 has been set to facilitate the following; Building & Construction Projects in the villages, Health Care (including HIV Awareness), Youth Empowerment & Education in schools & orphanages.
This project really does mean the world to all three of us & we would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude & that of the people of Livingstone... Without your support the following really wouldn’t be possible.
Building & Construction Projects
We will be helping to develop the local town of Livingstone with innovative and self-sustaining structures while also beautifying the community. This project is unlike others as we will be participating in helping to create safe & sound structures for the community through ecological and self-sustaining methods. This will be done by working alongside other volunteer’s, staff & local community members to determine what builds are necessary & then help design and execute these builds. We also plan to help refurbish an old playground, paint classrooms, & build chicken coops & compost bins.
This is where we look to have an impact on life. We will be Focusing our help & support to local healthcare initiatives & care givers in the rural communities where resources are limited. This is because Healthcare institutions in Zambia, like many other places globally suffer from being under-staffed and under-resourced. Alongside African Impact we will work with various clinics to combat this & deliver the maximum benefit to healthcare in this region. Remember we don’t need to be medically qualified to make a huge impact in the lives of the local community; we will simply be lending a hand. Aside from this we also aim to provide assistance in educating a variety of age groups regarding HIV, hand hygiene, substance abuse, nutrition & cancer.
Girls are a powerful force for change in Africa, & we believe that investing in adolescent girls is essential to reducing poverty, improving health and encouraging future economic growth. The Girl Impact initiative that we will be a part of, aims to provide opportunities for these lost adolescent girls. Through open discussion to help change attitudes we will be guiding and supporting them in their education & providing knowledge about health, safety, early pregnancy, making a living, & confidence in the self. Thus hopefully cultivating those vital skills, support and inspiration required to not only help themselves but the lives of others in perpetuity. This I think you will agree will be a real impact, in Africa. And if all that wasn’t enough we will also be popping into a Youth Clinic and Anti bullying workshop should we get the time.
Here we aim to save & impact the future for all ages, starting with the much needed teaching assistance at under staffed Zambian schools. This is where we will look to improve the learning experience for those who are falling behind. This is an opportunity for us to give individual attention to children who really need it, to assist teachers who deal with a lack of resources, and to gain some valuable teaching experience abroad. On top of that, we will be contributing to the education and welfare of local Zambian adult communities with community-benefitting projects such as uplifting life skills classes, HIV workshops, adult literacy, and reading classes.
