We need your help to host the GAC International Family Gathering, Ghana, 2022!
The Global Afrikan Congress (GAC) needs your support to help cover the cost of our International Afrikan Family Gathering in Accra, Ghana, 2022. Your donations will help to cover the cost of the venue, refreshments for volunteers, translators, and a stipend for our Ghanian associates working to help organize the conference. A portion of the donations will be used to sponsor a delegation of youths from several countries around the world.
We would like you to come to the Family Gathering in Ghana, as we reflect on the 20th Anniversary of the World Conference Against Racism, (WCAR), 2001, and the global movement for reparatory justice
The Theme of the Conference is: Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of WCAR, Globalizing our Demands for Reparations.
The objectives of the Family Gathering:
1. To encourage members and supporters of the GAC from around the world to double their efforts to mobilize the masses for the fight for Reparations, and to address the urgency of the global soci-economic disparities of the global Afrikan families.
2. To develop and agree on an overarching strategy for executing the Reparations Campaign.
3. To tackle the thorny issue of structural and institutionalized Anti-Black Racism following the momentum generated by the Minnesota Police murder of George Floyd and other state-sponsored police violence and the lingering effect of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, Enslavement and the Economics of Racism.
4. To discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global African community. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the ineffective government anti-Black racism legislation, strategies and policies. It has really highlighted the structural inequality manifested in the institutional racism that results in income disparity, lack of housing and health care, and environmental racism.
Outcomes and Expectations:
At the end of the International Family Gathering, our expectation is that the global Afrikan community will be galvanised to get involved in mass movements and campaigns aimed at holding Europe and North America accountable for their legal and moral obligation to respect international law, as well as implementing the outcomes of the United Nations World Conference Against Racism which witnessed a historic 168 countries voting to declare the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade a crime against humanity.
About the GAC:
The Global Afrikan Congress (GAC) is an international network of Pan-Afrikanist and Afrikan-centered organizations and individuals who are committed to building linkages and genuine and permanent relationships across the Afrikan world. We aim to mobilize the human, economic, political, spiritual, and cultural resources of Afrika and the Afrikan Diaspora in the interests of and to the benefit of Afrika and her scattered sons and daughters. The International Steering Committee is the governing body of the GAC and comprises representatives from throughout the Afrikan world.
The genesis of the Global Afrikan Congress is to be found in the series of regional meetings and preparatory conferences in which hundreds of Afrikan and Afrikan Diasporan organizations participated as they prepared for the United Nations World Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance which was held in Durban, South Afrika, in September 2001.
To work effectively within the UN context, our Black organizations established an ‘Afrikan and Afrikan Descendants Caucus,’ and resolved to continue beyond the Durban Conference, in order to establish a new and permanent global organization.
In pursuit of this goal, a major Afrikan and Afrikan Descendant World Conference Against Racism was held in Bridgetown, Barbados, in October 2002, with the support and assistance of the government of Barbados.
It was at this conference that the Global Afrikan Congress was officially established, and a programme of action entitled “The Bridgetown Protocol” was adopted.
The GAC recognizes the strategic importance of the reunification of the Afrikan family and has taken steps to ensure a deepening of relationships among us. It is a consequence of this decision that we ask the Government of Ghana’s assistance in providing some resources to us.
