Student Veterans and Future Leaders

The students of Diablo Valley College Veterans Alliance need your support to make it to the Student Veterans of America’s 10th Annual National Conference. 

Each year the SVA host a national 3 day conference which provides important leadership training and professional development that is tailored to strengthening student veterans. This upcoming conference will be held on January 4 - 6, 2018 in San Antonio, TX. It is with great anticipation that we look forward to attending this event, however, there is a obstacle which we must circumnavigate. Because the location of this event is in Texas, we have been denied financial sponsorship by our school and must attend as private citizens.

As of June 26, 2015 the state of California prohibits state funded travel to any states deemed discriminatory towards the LGBT community. The state of Texas is among the 13 states prohibited by this travel ban (Assembly Bill No. 1887). For this reason we are unable to obtain standard school funding to attend this conference. However, the attendance of California veterans at this event is instrumental to the growth and development of our future veteran leaders of our state. For this reason we are sending three local veterans to attend this conference. These students, independent of school and state affiliation, will also be using their personal funds to help finance this trip in the belief that their contribution will benefit all Veterans and community members as a whole.

Given the circumstances we are asking for donations in support of the Student Veterans embarking on this journey. Our goal is to raise $2,421 to insure that all three veterans will be able to attend this event. Thank you for your continued service and support.
