Freddy is about to come face-to-face with his parents for the first time in years. As he enters his

childhood home, tiptoeing around broken bottles and food scraps, all he smells is booze, vermin

and disease. Laying eyes on his parents, Freddy realises this will not be the homecoming he'd

allowed himself to imagine. He realises he won't be coming face-to-face with them at all. They

are both passed out, bottles in hand "“ his mother face down on the floor, his father sprawled

across the filthy sofa.

Freddy travelled 11 hours by bus with excitement in his heart. He couldn't wait to share

stories of his new life with his parents. With all five of their children no longer depending on

them for food and money, Freddy was certain his parents would have turned their lives around.

Just like he had, thanks to the generosity of strangers.

It was his sister who'd taken Freddy and his two younger brothers to an orphanage when she could no longer take care of them. Their parents worked hard in the jungle

for months at a time and when they came home they were violent and spent their earnings on

alcohol. The orphanage was the only way out. Freddy and his brothers escaped. And once there,

Freddy escaped further. Into a world he'd never known. A world of music.

Freddy sat patiently, observing other kids and volunteers messing around on the piano that

had been donated to the orphanage. He waited 6 months until he laid hands on the piano. And

that's when magic happened.

With the help of a music-loving volunteer, Freddy immersed himself in all different kinds of

music. Day after day he practiced and studied the keys, until he no longer needed guidance. He

only needed to open his ears. Freddy was able to listen to a Coldplay or Red Hot Chili Peppers

CD and replicate songs note for note.

If you go to visit Freddy today you will hear him long before you see him. Coldplay's "Clocks"

or "The Scientist" echo in the hallways as if he composed them himself. In fact, as Freddy plays

and thinks about his parents, the lyrics could not be more fitting. "Nobody said it was easy, It's

such a shame for us to part." Freddy has parted with the cycle of abuse and alcohol and found

a new life in music. He is now enrolled in Cusco's San Blas Music School and dreams of being a

great musician. Thanks to the generosity of strangers.

Back in his childhood home, Freddy's mother wakes from her boozy slumber. She stares at the

boy in front of her. Then pelts her bottle at him spraying beer over his face and t-shirt. "Who are

you?" she cries. "Thief! Get out of my house!"

Freddy boards a bus and makes his way back to the world he has created for himself. A world

where he can express everything he feels.

Kids like Freddy are everywhere. They are forced to accept the life they are born into.

But you do.

Help kids like Freddy.

Freddy needs $5000 to finish four years of piano study at the San Blas Music School, Cusco, Peru.  Through your donations, he can see his dream come true.
