Selfish vs Selfless...

Liz and I try to teach our kids the latter is far more important than the former - think of others before thinking of yourself.  We also try to practice what we preach (Liz is much better at it than me).

As you may know, Will (13), our disabled youngest son (non-verbal, severely intellectually delayed (18 month old IQ)  and suffering from daily seizures), now lives and attends school at The Center for Discovery in the Catskill Mountains – about 2.5 hours from our house on Long Island.  Selfishly, we want him at home and close to us, selflessly, we know, The Center is the best place for him and he’ll thrive there.  It is easier to preach than practice and it's a daily struggle for all those that love him (especially, the author of this note).

The Center http://www.thecenterfordiscovery.org/ is an international specialty center for the advanced treatment of individuals with significant disabilities and complex conditions that is revolutionizing how society prepares for and deals with the growing number of people impacted by disabilities.  They provide exceptional educational, residential and health care services, including an organic, biodynamic farm spread over 2,000 acres (one of head chefs cooked on numerous occasions for former President Obama at the White House).  They consider themselves (and rightfully so) the Mayo Clinic of their field and have been designated a “Center of Excellence” by the NYS Dept of Health for the treatment of complex conditions.  Please take a moment and click on the above link - I'm confident you'll enjoy learning more about The Center For Discovery.  It's simply, amazing.

My family once again humbly asks for your support of our son and now, The Center for Discovery (501C3).  Our goal this year is to raise $50,000 and during the next 10 years, $500,000.  Will and his fellow students/residents cope with some of life’s most difficult challenges daily and The Center for Discovery helps them endure and overcome and equally important, enjoy life.

If you prefer to send a check, please make it out to The Center for Discovery and mail it to 336 West Neck Road, Lloyd Harbor, NY 11743 (our home address).

Our family is blessed to have such wonderful friends and your support throughout the past years has been overwhelming.  Please considering donating to this year’s campaign and equally important, sharing this information with friends, co-workers, etc. I understand there are numerous worthy causes and many in need, but selfishly (see above comment), I ask you to help my son and The Center.  Your support is vitally important to both.

I hope you accept the above photo as a small token of our gratitude and, that it brightens your day.  Will is loved immensely by all.

Thank you.  God Bless.  We hope.
