I have had the pleasure of recently becoming more involved in the community by joining The Friends of PACT.
The Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) serves individuals living with a serious and persistent mental illness (examples: schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder). It provides coordinated professional care and treatment in the individual's home or other community setting that includes a broad range of services to meet the individual's unique personal needs, reduce symptoms, and promote recovery. The program’s goal is to enable patients to live successfully in the community and avoid hospitalizations.
Since becoming more involved I have had the pleasure of getting to know some of the PACT clients. Many of thier stories were heartbreaking- they've shared experiences of rejection, bullying, discrimination, depression, addiction, and homelessness.
Did you know three out of four people with mental illness have experienced stigma? Navigating life with a mental health condition can be tough, and the isolation, blame and secrecy that is often encouraged by stigma can create huge challenges to reaching out, getting needed support and living well.
I like to think of PACT as a safe place where everyone is viewed as an individual human being, with love and compassion. With this mission in mind, I’m asking for donations for this year’s holiday party! A 100% of the donation will go towards buying each client a special gift unique to them and present them at the annual holiday party! The remaining gifts will be used to create more positive & impactful events for PACT clients.
