Help Fridelande become a mother

Who are they?

Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Verlus were married in September 2012 and even though they have always dreamed of having a family, 5 years later, their dream has not materialized.

I am honored to be a very close friend of Fridelande and to also call her husband Daniel my friend. I was the matron of honor in their wedding and our families have maintained a strong bond over the years. For those of you who do not know Fridelande, allow me to introduce her- First off; she is a woman who loves the Lord, she loves her family and friends and also loves life. She is selfless and giving to a fault.  She is also a little feisty! Fridelande is a natural helper and giver of her time and resources and is always willing to lend a hand or ear. She is one person who keeps in touch and does her best to maintain friendships not allowing time, geography and life to get in the way. Our children fondly call her ‘Tatie’- a creole term which translates to aunty in English.  She does not forget birthdays, anniversaries or any important event in the lives of those around her. Fridelande and Daniel are already excellent parents to countless lives, and so it hurts to see them go through infertility struggles. So after heavy thinking and prayers, I decided to start a fundraiser to help their dream of becoming parents a reality.

What makes this difficult?

Fridelande has been a social worker (we know how much they make) for about 15 years and so often has had the difficult job of extracting children from their homes and placing them in foster care, custody of the state. She often has to work for the most vulnerable population- children of neglect and (or) abuse and give them hope. This has to be very difficult for someone who wants a child and someone who was built for motherhood as she is. It is a constant reminder of what she looks at as her ‘failure’.  She is also very engaged in the youth group at the church she attends- teaching, instructing, and mentoring young people. Her sisters all have children and Fridelande has been and continues to be highly involved in their lives to the point of witnessing their births, even cutting the umbilical cord of one of her nephews, and being present for all their church and family activities or performances. She also attends parent teacher conferences and open house meetings.  She takes such good care of others’ children and would certainly make a great mother to her own children.  Her husband Daniel, loves children and would make a wonderful father.

Fridelande has a natural maternal instinct when it comes to being a parent and she demonstrates this in the love she shows to her nieces, nephews and friends’ children. In fact, the joke is when in doubt on who to put as an emergency contact for your children- put Fridelande by default and tell her later. Case in point- she is the emergency contact for my children’s’ pediatrician, any school they have ever attended, daycare etc.

To top it up, every month she sees her period, is a loss to her and a reminder that she is not pregnant.

What do they need?

In the past five years, they have paid for different fertility procedures and treatments, but unfortunately none have worked. They have met with doctors who advice IVF (Invitro Fertilization) as a last resort. After consultation with the medical staff, they realized that IVF is a very expensive medical procedure that requires a lot of time off work and a lot of money up front, as many insurance plans (including ours) do not provide any coverage for infertility-related services. We are hoping to raise funds to help pay for IVF and help out with some of the large bills from December. IVF is a very expensive procedure that requires a lot of money and time off from work.  Their medical insurance will not cover any of the expenses and they offer no support in infertility treatments. This is why they are turning to friends, family and the general public for help.

They are in need of $20,000 to cover the cost of IFV as their last resort to have a child and grow their family.  There is also a small window to act due to her age so i'd like to express the urgency.

If you are not able to donate, please share the post with your extended network and most importantly, remember Daniel and Fridelande in your prayers so God can bless them with children and make their dream of being parents a reality.  May God richly bless you for reading this post and for any support you will provide Fridelande and Daniel.
