Help Frank Medina fight Leukemia!

Donation protected
My husband and best friend of almost 25 years has been diagnosed with Philadelphia chromosome positive (BCR - ABL fusion) Acute Lymphoblastic Leukimia. ALL is common in children but rare for adults, especially in Frank's age group. The Philadelphia chromosome subtype is the hardest to treat, due to the the mutation of his genes and chromosomes, changes in his DNA, caused by this subtype. At this point, life will never be the same as we once knew. Everything has happened so fast, I will provide a brief time line:
2/26/14 He came home from work feeling flu like symptoms and a sharp pains in his stomach. We went to the ER and and he was admitted due to dangerously low and decreasing blood levels.
2/28/14 We were transferred to a different facility that had a Hematologist / Oncologist.
3/5/14 Bone marrow biopsy performed.
3/6/14 Diagnosed with Leukimia (ALL)
3/7/14 Treatment begins. He was givin platelets, MUGA scan, infusion port placed in his chest and a spinal tap with an injection of Chemo. The spinal tap was performed to check if the Leukimia has affected his central nervous system, thankfully it hasn't yet.
3/8/14 Started Chemotherapy.
3/9/14 blood transfusion
3/13/14 blood transfusion
3/14/14 2nd spinal tap in 7 days, and new chemo injected. 2 units of platelets given

Once the intense chemo has been completed, and a point of remission is acheived that he needs to reach before he can have his Bone Marrow/Sem Cell Transplant,  we will need to travel to Denver for the Bone Marrow/ Stem Cell Transplant. If remission is not acheived in the first round of intense chemo, we will need to do it again before the transplant can take place. This is a crucial but dangerous part of treatment. If all goes well we will go back to Albuquerue and chemo will be a permanent part of his life to maintain remission.

Frank will be 49 May 22nd. He is a Sergeant at Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center, going on 8 years. He is a loving and caring husband, father, son, brother and uncle to a family that desperately needs your support on his long journey towards remission. He is not one to ask for help but in this great time of need we are reaching out to everyone. We need to raise a substantial amount of money for medical and living expenses. This will include his care and travel for his family out of state, which won't be covered by insurance and copays.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, and know you will be helping a good and honest man in the fight for his life and hopefully bring attention to adult ALL and the different subtypes that changes the treatment course and chances of remission. This is a forever life changing cancer, in which treatment will always be needed, either with inpatient or outpatient care. We thank you for anything you are able to contribute.

Thank you all for your help,
Michele Medina
