Frankie is a foster dog through Companion Animal Alliance (CAA) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Frankie was adopted as a puppy in the fall of 2016 but found as a stray dog by East Baton Rouge Animal Control in the summer of 2017. The staff at CAA contacted his owners to tell them that Frankie was at the shelter but they never came to get him. When Frankie was being prepared to be placed for adoption a second time, someone noticed that he could only open his mouth about an inch. A CT Scan revealed that his jaw was broken through some kind of trauma to his face. Unfortunately when the trauma occurred no one took him to the vet for treatment. The failure to get him veterinary care caused two pieces of his jaw bone to fuse to his skull on one side (see image). This is the reason Frankie can only open his mouth about an inch. Because he can’t open his mouth, he is more susceptible to choking on just about anything. In fact, Frankie could choke to death at any time simply from vomiting.
The good news is that Frankie can have surgery to fix his jaw! The LSU Vet School as agreed to perform the surgery for CAA. However, in order to get the surgery Frankie needs, we must raise $4000 by February 1st 2018 to cover the cost of the surgery.
Frankie is a 1 and a half year old, 70 pound, Plott Hound mix. Everyone who meets Frankie loves him! He is a gentle giant who loves all dogs, adores children, and even gets along with cats. Frankie's favorite thing in the world is tennis balls, basketballs or anything round. He loses his mind over balls even though he can’t ever pick them up. He also loves roughhousing with other dogs. Please see attached videos to appreciate how fun Frankie is and also note how little he can open his mouth.
Any donation amount is appreciated to get Frankie the surgery he desperately needs. Donations can also be made in person. Please email me if you prefer to donate with cash or check.
Much love and many thanks!
