WHO AM I? Hi! My name is Jill Emmelhainz. I am in my second half of life. I am a sometimes-too-independent wife and an always-so-proud mom of seven kids, most of whom are grown and wandering the world. I am passionate about living life fully and encouraging others to do the same as they discover their unique strengths. I have always enjoyed being outdoors. I camp, canoe, snow-ski and backpack, but soaking up sunshine is more than a hobby for me. I regularly use connection with Nature as a prescription for healing…
This Dream Job is a PERFECT FIT for me! Forest Therapy Guides help folks of all ages become healthier by connecting with the healing power of nature. I have first-hand experience of the PEACE this therapy brings:
· Comfort when grieving my son’s death 10 years ago
· Peace during the chaos of caring for a spouse with cancer
· Rest for a stressed out mama of a large family
· Recovery from struggles of working with at-risk minority youth
· Stability for a daughter with severe anxiety and mental illness
No matter what path I’m walking, I reach out to those around me to encourage and support them in facing similar challenges. I have done this type of informal mentoring for years. Now I have the opportunity to complete formal training and gain certification to more effectively do what I am already practicing. I can’t wait to guide others in how to add Nature Therapy into their busy, stressful lives!
Why I Need YOUR HELP! **THANKS to those who generously donated to the first part of my campaign! With your help, I have finished my initial training and have paid for the gear I need to start leading walks for my 6-month practicum. You are awesome!** NOW I need help to finish paying for final certification and start-up costs that are due before I launch my business and can charge fees to cover my on-going expenses.
Usually we are the strong, independent family that helps others. Like many of you, we manage to effectively juggle daily living expenses for a family. We stretch our budget to cover therapies for a daughter with disabilities, college expenses for a son, and occasional travel to visit far-flung family and grandbabies. We even survived hubby being laid off last year.
Normally we delay new experiences until we have cash to cover costs. It would take a long while to save enough money to pay for the training class to become a Forest Therapy guide, especially since most courses are overseas or on the far side of the country. I was excited to find a program unexpectedly offered in my home state this year! I was able to take out a loan against our retirement funds to cover the initial fee for this training. Donors covered the costs of travel, lodging and out-of pocket expenses for the training intensive and starting mentored walks in practicum. **THANK YOU for your help so far!** I'm on the home stretch! NOW I need help with a final few classes and expenses to finish my certification so I can launch my business to help families in my local community once I am certified.
How DONATIONS will be used: This Go-Fund-Me Campaign will pay for the cost of completing the six month training process to become a certified Forest Therapy Guide with The Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs, an international advocacy organization. My program started in September 2018 with an 8-day training intensive. Currently I'm completing a 6-month mentored practicum. The breakdown of $1198 in funds still needed to gain my certification is: $260 for Wilderness First Aid certification; $240 annual Liability Insurance (my business will pay this in subsequent years); and $698 cost to attend the 2019 Forest Therapy Conference. Donations above the campaign amount will be used to offer scholarships or free classes in my local community after I am certified.
