Help Me, Help My Gram-Mommy

Wow! This is one of those devastatingly humbling times in life were you realize how helpless you can be to "life's little curve balls". I would never ask for myself, BUT FOR HER... I am swallowing my pride and asking you now for your help.

For the past 7 years my Grandmother (Yes, Gram for those who know her) has been fighting and struggling to keep her home since getting caught in that whole "subprime mortgage loan" debacle. After renting pretty much her whole adult life ; she retired in 1998 after working 30+ years for a telephone company and decided to use her retirement savings to purchase a home. In 2007, she was advised by a certain family member (who will remain nameless), that at the time worked for Countrywide Home Loans to refinance to one of these "adjustable-rate mortgages" that were supposed to be so great and of course we know how that turned out. When the mortgage doubled: my retired grandmother living on a fixed-income, couldn't keep up with the payments. Cut to today; the house is finally gone, her savings is drained and that family member who co-signed and encouraged her into this mess to begin with... has long been gone. Now she has to be out of said house before the end of the month (actually the 14th to be exact but there may be a few days grace period) because the bank has finally sold it.

What's done is done. The house is not coming back and it's time to move on. This is why I am here; to ask for your help to get her into an Active Senior Living Community. For those that do know my Grammy, know how independent and proud she is. She told me today " I haven't made a mistake this big in 50 years and the last 7 years have been the some of saddest of my life." I took from that it has been quite a slap in the face that she could never quite get the help she needed when she needed it these past 7 years. That absolutely broke my heart! You see, the only thing I have know my Grandmother to be is a person that has ALWAYS BEEN THERE FOR ANYBODY AND EVERYBODY. Family, Friends, Friends of Family and heck even Friends of Friends. And myself no less. She took me in when I'm 13 and gave me the stability, love and commitment I needed in my formidable years. She is the reason I am the person I am today. Her heart has been one of; love of family, self- sacrifice, hard work, giving and EVEN MORE GIVING. It has been her gift and her curse. Because of her giving nature; she now has nothing for herself when she really needs it...just to live out a comfortable life in her older age. Please, with your donation, you can help elevate a lot of stress from her life.

Unfortunately I, like most of her adult children and grandchildren, live a paycheck-to-paycheck life and don't have the lump some available to get her where she needs to be in the next few weeks. I can only speak for myself, but it would take me a few months to save up that amount and then quite frankly, I'd probably have to start a GoFundMe page for myself. : ) But the great thing is even small (or big if you can) donations can really add up quickly and make a HUGE DIFFERENCE IN HER LIFE.

There was no way I was gonna sit saying to myself there is nothing I can do to help. That would have not been fair given all that she has done for so many. So the goal here is to garner enough donations to pay for the moving and storage cost, deposit, first/last months rent and to pay off the "borrow-from-Peter-to-pay-Paul" short term loans she has accumulated.

Estimated costs:
Moving- $600-700
Deposit - $1000
First and Last Months rent- $2400
Outstanding Loans - $1000

Once she is settled in this senior community, she will be able to sustain the cost of her living through her social security and monthly contributions by my sister and myself.

If you have anything, ANYTHING AT ALL TO SPARE, even the littlest helps and would be so appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read. Please share with your friends, as you never know who would be moved to help.
