Help Pathfinder Academy and Lenana Girls High School boarding schools raise enough money to start their farm!

The goal of the farming project is to provide to schools with continuous nutrition. After the funds are raised, the high school girls will learn how to garden and farm in this area and learn important harvesting information. The girls will also learn the essential nutrients of each of the crops planted through nutrition courses. These girls will also have projects to go into communities and teach techniques for planting and harvesting crops. This training will cost $150.00 for a group of thirty farmers.  This farm will not only be beneficial to the hundreds of kids in the schools, but it will also benefit the families and communities of these children.

The farm will consist of all the food needed to feed these children a balanced and nutritious meal everyday. Currently, the diet is calorie-based, where the children are mainly fed ugali (corn flour) and greens (typically kale). The main concern is the lack of micronutrients in this diet. The importance of this farm is that it will provide the necessary micronutrients for each child everyday and provide the fruit and dairy that their diets are currently lacking.

The farm has already planted vegetables, but is in need for funds for the other necessary items. After these initial funds are raised, the farm will be self-sustained by the students and school staff. They will teach students how to do biointensive gardening, which uses 67% to 88% less water, 50% to 100% less fertilizer, 99% less energy than commercial agriculture while using a fraction of the resources.  It can produce up to 6 times more food per unit area, build the soil up to 60 times faster than in nature, and reduce the amount of land needed by half.

Please Buy Something for our Farm! Here is what we need:

500 chicks: $2.00/chick
1 chicken coup: $1600

2 water tanks: $500/piece
(These tanks are made with brick made by the school from clay, cement and mesh are the things needed)

GROW BIOINTENSIVE training: $150
(This will trian a gorup of 30 farmers, providing seeds, shared tools, and training material.  One student will be attached to each group)

These schools are both funded and operated by Common Ground for Africa (CGA). CGA founded and currently operates a primary school (Pathfinder Academy) with 501 students, grades K-8, most of whom are orphans and vulnerable children. The new boarding school, Lenana Girls High School, will provide low cost or free education to orphaned, vulnerable, and disspossessed girls ages 13-22. This education will be focused on problem solving, critical thinking, and the farm will do a great deal with active learning.
