Hello All,
Did you know that 1 in 5 Westchester residents are food insecure? The Westchester Food Bank is an organization that provides food directly to 200,000 hungry or food insecure county residents. They delivered 7.4 million meals to people in need last year, through food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, daycare and residential programs.
Over the holidays, I had the opportunity of working with the Food Bank of Westchester to help raise money for the Check Out Hunger Campaign. I was assigned to work with Balducci’s in Scarsdale, NY as a COH Ambassador. As Ambassador, my duties and responsibilities were to set up the donation cards by the register, speak to the cashiers about encouraging customers to make donations, and checking in from time to time to replenish the donation cards by the registers and to see how things were going. I also handed out flyers outside of the store with information about the organization and how important their donation is in providing a meal or meals to an individual or family in need.
As a result of this campaign, my store alone made $3,271.00. We were among the top three earning stores. As a whole, we were able to exceed our fundraising goal for 2017 by raising a total of $26,204.00! I was so proud to be a part of this accomplishment and I realized that I can do more. I am grateful that I have never known the feeling of going to bed hungry, or going to school with an empty stomach, or thinking about when I will have my next meal. This is happening in our community every day. Just because it doesn’t happen in our neighborhoods, doesn’t mean it’s not real. It is very real and we have the power to make a difference in these lives.
