Five 4 Justice 2021
Last summer, in the wake of George Floyd and our country’s collective cry to enact change, friends of the entertainment ad community yearned to be a part of the solution. With that, we organized Five 4 Justice – a virtual 5k fundraiser that raised over $50,000 for Color of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization who holds corporate and political leaders accountable, commissions game-changing research on systems of inequality, and advances transformational solutions for racial justice.
Our 10 Los Angeles-based media agencies – all representing the major theatrical studios and streaming businesses – are back, this time to address the rising threat against our AAPI community. This year's race will support Stop AAPI Hate , an organization built in response to the alarming escalation in xenophobia and bigotry resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The coalition tracks and responds to incidents of hate, violence, harassment, discrimination, shunning, and child bullying against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.
As you can imagine, we’re all slightly competitive in nature and consumed with meeting and exceeding benchmarks – so our goal is to at the very least, match our $50,000 accomplishment from last year.
How you can help?
- Sign up to our virtual “race” with a suggested donation of $50. We welcome all donations above and below that line – every dollar matters.
- On August 22, we will run/walk/jog/bike/crawl 3.1 miles as a sign of solidarity for the AAPI community. There are no bibs or medals – just a media community coming together to create change.
- In addition to the suggested entry fee, we’d love for you to reach out to your friends, family, and business peers for additional support.
- On race day, we hope everyone will post pictures of their run/walk with the hashtag #Five4Justice, so we can see the love and support in virtual action.
We said this last year and it’s worth repeating: As media planners, buyers, sellers and negotiators, we all know one thing – money talks! And while we’re all normally duking it out at the box office, or battling for the number one streaming program – we’re excited to put our gloves down on 8/22 and join forces for good.
So get training for 8/22! Let’s show everyone how good we are with money and the power of persuasion when it matters most.
