Hi All! This is Janda and I NEED YOUR HELP to fund my first independently written and produced short movie!!! :D
"Novela of a Telenovela Star" is an independent short comedy that explores the complicated and often hilarious encounters of its lead protagonist, telenovela actress Isabella ("Izzy"). Even as Izzy works hard to avoid dramatic episodes in her personal life, she finds herself stuck in her own soap opera over the course of an illuminating dinner party at her home. Oh yeah, did I mention that Izzy's queer?
Why Did I Decide to Write This?
I saw a need for more queer, intersectional stories in film and television. This is a Latina story, a queer story, a family story, an addiction story. It is also a sad story and a funny story. It is a story about how one woman must deal with life's unexpected surprises when there are no longer easy boxes to check and scripts to follow.
Why am I producing this?
As a small girl, I often watched movies so I didn't feel so alone.
Even as a child, I didn't often see faces that looked like mine on-screen, or stories that truly felt genuine to my personal experiences.
This is why I'm purposefully organizing a multi-cultural cast and crew. I want Hollywood and the world at large to be more accepting and interested in the diverse stories that do not just rely on basic media stereotypes. This is my way of creating visibility and positive change in the industry that I love.
What am I using the funds for?
Unlike Izzy's soap opera persona, Dulce, I don't have a Sugar Daddy who is married to my Evil Twin Sister. I have to find another way to fund my first independent film project, and we are starting to shoot the film in just 6 short weeks!!!
This is why I am asking my community of family, friends, teachers, classmates, and colleagues to help me fund this project! I cannot express enough how much your support means to me personally and how much of a difference your support will make for my first independently-funded film. With your help, I can elevate this project from a good story to a high-quality professional production!!!
I am using the funds for:
-Filming location rental
-Professional light rental
-Professional camera rental
-Professional sound equipment
-Professional makeup and hair
-Props
-Wardrobe
-Set dressing
-Feeding the cast and crew
-Providing the cast with quality footage for their reel
-Editing/ Coloring
-Fees for festival submissions
