Fight the Good Fight with Albert

On October 13th, 2017, on the 100th anniversary of the Fatima Apparition, our father, Albert Grajeda, made a pilgrimage to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Green Bay Wisconsin, to pray before meeting with his doctor, as he had been having some troubling symptoms. A tumor was found and our Dad has spent the last month going back and forth to the oncologist, getting procedures, blood work, and tests done.
While we continue to pray for the best, he has been diagnosed with invasive colon cancer.
This week he is completing the initial scans, including a CT and an MRI. He has an appointment on November 20th, 2017 to go over the results and set up an official treatment plan. In the best case scenario, our father will need surgery to remove the tumor and the damage it has already caused. Recovery time, with no complications, is estimated at eight weeks minimum.
About Dad: He has been married to our mother Katrina Grajeda for over thirty years and is the father of nine children ranging in age from 28 to 6 (six of which are still living at home), and grandpa to eight grandbabies. However, cancer does not discriminate.
Our dad introduced us to God and His mercy. He demonstrates daily by his example what it means to love and live for Christ. Dad passed on his love of theology, philosophy, and debate to all of his children.
Our father has worked hard for as long we can remember, working up to seventy hours a week as a long-haul truck driver to provide for his family. Our dad has had many jobs, but he has always taken his strong, tireless work ethic with him. Although our dad has been handling his condition with faith and humor, tireless can no longer be used to describe him. Concerns now plague him as they never have before— that for the first time he cannot work to provide for his family, concern that he will prematurely leave our mother and his children. He has always met every hardship and difficulty with faith and courage, stepped up to the plate and risen above no matter what hardship has faced him and our family. He has a truly beautiful faith, always trusting in God’s will and mercy. He has instilled this trust in all of us:
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (MAT 6:26)
Sadly, our parents have no savings and no retirement or emergency fund which can keep their lights, heat, and water on or cover the cost of a mere month of rent, let alone maintain a household of eight people.
As the holiday season approaches, we all realize that we cannot fathom life without him present around the dinner table. Our dad is a dedicated, loving father and a faithful follower of God who is in dire need of aid from others as he continues to fight for his life. Our father taught us to pray with the faith of a mustard seed—to trust that God has a plan. He sees our needs and will provide, but we need to do our part and work hard, knowing all things are in the loving hands of our Heavenly Father.
This campaign is to help ease the financial burden of daily expenses (rent, heat, etc.) while he focuses on his health and fighting this cancer.
As his adult children, we are doing all we can to contribute and ease the financial and emotional burden. We are truly heartbroken, both from this diagnosis and from seeing the strongest man we know find himself is such a difficult place.
“That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 COR 12:10).
Please join us in praying for his complete healing! It means the world to us and our family. Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us! Saint Joseph, pray for us!
Christ calls us all to "Fight the good fight of faith" (1 TIM 6:12). We are putting our faith in God and trusting He has a plan for our Dad through all of this, no matter how difficult it may feel. We ask that you join along side our family, as we rally together to help our Daddy "Fight the good fight!"
