Here is Phil's story:

Phil was diagnosed with Nash Disease, Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (liver inflammation caused by a build-up of fat in the liver leading to cirrhosis) in July of 2012. He then learned that he would require a Liver transplant. He was accepted into the University of Pennsylvania Transplant Program and was placed on the transplant list. A waiting time of approximately one year lay ahead of him. During that year he endured many doctor visits, blood tests, MRI's, X-Rays, and CT Scans. The MRI's also found that his liver was Cancerous. He had a procedure in December of 2012 where they applied an extremely high dose of Chemotherapy to the fairly small tumor.

For the past year he prepared himself for the eventual transplant by walking daily with the family dog, Lucky, as well as changing eating habits. He wanted to be in the best shape possible and consequently lost 95 pounds prior to the surgery.

On July 29, the Liver Transplant took place. His initial recovery was remarkable and he was discharged five days later. Over the next month he encountered multiple complications from the surgery requiring 2 additional stays in the hospital.

Including the transplant, Phil has spent 30 days in the hospital. Along with hospital bills, there are other expenses that are mounting up quickly. Phil is currently taking 56 doses of medicine a day and the costs are rather high. On top of that, there are frequent trips back to the hospital in Philadelphia for follow-up visits, which include fuel, tolls, and parking expenses. Also, Phil has been unemployed due to the many doctor visits and tests that were required as well as the transplant and recovery period.

For the past 20+ years, Phil has volunteered thousands of hours of his time to the Boy Scouts of America. A program that he strongly believes in and he continues to volunteer his time today. Please help us help someone who has given so much of himself to the community. It's our turn now to Fight For Phil!
