Fighting For Change - 1 Week Martial Arts Convention in Udaipur India  -  Spring 2018

*****Since 2017, the city of Udaipur has mobilized an all-female police task force of motorcycle riding officers, whose primary mandate is to respond to domestic violence and crimes against women. ****

We are reaching out to raise funds to help support the 4th Fighting For Change Women’s martial arts and self-defense convention in Udaipur, India. The 1-week event held in late spring 2018,  will consist of martial arts workshops, and lectures as well as create an opportunity for students to share their experiences in a safe, sheltered environment, and to seek any support or counseling they need or want.

The local and international Martial Arts instructors, speakers and members of the local Police force all donate their time, so your contribution goes towards facility needs and equipment; such as mats, training, gear, and logistics.

In order to reach as many people as possible, this event is free of charge, and we would like to keep it that way. All the help we get goes directly to the program and the students who benefit from it.

About the ongoing program:

The Fighting For Change program was created out of a desire to empower women of all ages by training skills and techniques required to defend and protect themselves. The program, which focuses on the self-defense and close quarters combat tactics of Wing Chun Kung Fu, Kudo ( Japanese Mixed Martial Arts ), and Jujitsu, teaches students to effectively deal with most common offensive techniques with speed and accuracy.

We strive to inspire a feeling of unity within our community. For people to feel empowered to stand up for themselves and each other so that abuse and violence will have no place in our lives.

Students learn theory, philosophical ideologies and practical methods needed to avoid violent interactions. In the event that violence is unavoidable, students will have the skills and practical knowledge needed to protect themselves.

We believe that no person has the right to physically or emotionally impose his/her will, opinion, or actions on another. All human beings - regardless of age, class, religion, or gender - are created equal and deserve to be treated with respect. No one life is worth more than another.

All genders are welcome to participate in this program, on equal ground. Together, we create a trusting space in which to train with discipline, hold courageous discourse, and cultivate respect. Together, we grow.
-The photo above was taken at our last event of the 2017 season at the Guru Nanak School. Here we introduced 2000 students to the women of the National Police Task Force who that was assembled exclusively to respond to domestic violence and crimes against women. -

“If the Shakti Caravan could teach this whole generation to sing and dance with as much joy and love in their hearts, there would be no more room for hate, violence, or discrimination.”

This is Rekha Kalbelyia. Rekha was the Catalyst for the start of Fighting For Change. She was a wonderful dancer from Nusar Village, Jodhpur India who was celebrated all over the world. But tragically killed in a senseless act of violence committed by a would-be suitor. Carling Jackson has created this representation of her from a photo taken during one of her performances and offered prints of it as a gift to donors over $200.     www.humanityart.org
