My Mum's Fight Against Cancer

Meet my Mum. This photo was taken before she was diagnosed with breast cancer, before everything became uncertain.  So much has happened since that carefree holiday in Bali...

Let me tell you about my mother.  She is the most hardworking, selfless, kind, and one of the strongest people I know.  And she is proud.  So proud she will never admit defeat and never ask for help  - even when she so desperately needs it.  So I am asking for her and she is unaware I have set this fund up.

My family has always had financial difficulties, we were given that hand of cards early on but it has taught us to be resilient and take nothing for granted.  My mother especially has been through the worst, saw my sister through anorexia, saw my brother through teenage anger and depression,  got me through hospital twice as I fought mental illnesses, lost her home and went through a divorce but still she came out on top. 

Until now.  Last year she was diagnosed with breast cancer and has undergone two operations already.  My mum is battling for heath the hardest I have ever seen her fight.  But financially it is all getting too much.

Mum owns her own Dog Grooming and Natural Animal Health business and is unable to work while she recovers from her latest operation and therefore cannot generate an income.  So she cannot make rent payments where the business operates from or pay other bills.  She is afraid she will lose it "“ a business she has worked so hard on for over 12 years and that now has over 500 clients.  Her business is her life and for her to lose it would break our family's heart.

The medical bills are piling in.  Mum believes in a natural way of fighting cancer and Medicare does not give any rebates on naturopathy.  Pills, organic food, operations, hospital costs, acupuncture bills, naturopath bills and then simple things like rent, electricity and water have almost become too much.  My father is semi-retired and relies on the pension to keep us afloat.  Our landlords have given us a moratorium to pay the rent when we can.  But yet we are still asking for another loan from a bank, when we haven't even paid off all the others. 

There has to be another way:and I hate feeling so helpless, so I googled how to fundraise and this was the best hit...

I cannot accurately portray to you what it's like to see your mum, your best friend, fighting and holding her head up so high, but knowing she's so afraid inside.   So afraid because everything is so uncertain.  How long can this battle go on? Keeping herself healthy but yet she may not have the financial resources to do so for much longer? Quality of life goes down, she can no longer just go to the movies, go out for a nice meal, buy a new dress because we simply cannot afford it.

So I am reaching out to you, my friends, family, strangers who stumble upon this.  Any amount will help to keep my Mum safe and healthy, to help fight this battle against cancer.  Mum told me awhile ago that she was applying for a 20k overdraft from the bank to keep the business going (she has since been refused this loan):so that will be my goal.

It is a big goal, but if lots of people give only a little, it can be done.

The money will go directly to keeping her business alive which is my Mums only source of income.  And to paying off the medical bills incurred from treatments and operations.
