Wednesday morning my brother-in-law was commuting to work on his bike, & was struck from behind by a vehicle.  He sustained a closed head injury, ultimately a brain bleed that required surgery.  Since Wednesday evening, he has been on machines to help him breathe, and being kept alive by said machines. Just a mere 48 hours after the accident and aggressive surgery, the doctors declared the patient “brain dead”. The brain was given no time to re-cooperate after the incident itself and the surgery. He suffers from fevers, and closed his own eyes. The family is Jewish. The hospital has threatened on several occasions to withdraw the life support, against the parents wishes despite the fact that Jewish law states a person is not dead until the heart stops. Their religion does not believe in taking life when the patient is still technically breathing, despite it being a machine. The hospital does not accommodate their religious beliefs, and frankly have no ground acting the way they are. Canada law states “brain-dead” patients are declared dead, that’s just general law. That’s does not include religious following individuals. We are trying to find a facility that is able to accommodate Idan, until he has even a chance at possible recovery.  The family and myself believe that he is in a deep coma, just not responsive to outside stimulation as of now. We need time. Time for the family to process, time for the patient to have a possible chance to recover. Idan is an amazing person. He loves life. He has a passion for baking, & cooking. He was a chef in a restaurant, & always cooked at home. He wanted to open his own bakery, & take in rescue dogs. He's not done with life, not even close! He has so much more experiences to go through!  He absolutely adores his nieces & nephews & does ANYTHING he can for them. His heart is pure gold.   Now, if we can't find a facility for him to be transferred to, we're going to have to pay to fly him to Israel for treatment there. That flight & transfer is risky, & the transfer alone costs $50,000. We will be taking the case to court, so lawyers & trials will be costly, but we can't back off.  CTV news Ottawa is covering Idan's story, aswell as Ottawa Citizen news paper. It needs to be heard.  We're asking that if anyone can possibly donate to his cause, we would be eternally grateful.  If we can find a place for him, all donations would go towards his care & needs from said facility & any treatment available for him.  This case has been a rough road for the whole family, & will continue to be. We all have faith & believe miracles happen. So please find it in your heart to help fight for Idan. Because he would give his life for a complete stranger. Our family needs him, he's so incredibly important to us, & he won't stop fighting.   Thank you for reading,   -Brittany
