Theo's Neuroblastoma Treatment Fund
In July 2015, Theo was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma. It has spread to his bones, skull, spine, hips and legs. Neuroblastoma is an extremely aggressive form of childhood cancer with survival rates between 35-50%. It is the most common cancer diagnosed in children under 5 years old. In most cases it is only diagnosed when it has already progressed to a late ‘high risk’ stage (stage 4). Even when children are tested clear of neuroblastoma after initial hospital treatment, a high proportion will relapse and in the case of relapse there is no standard treatment for these children, there is no cure.
Now Theo is undergoing initial hospital treatment we need the public to help us raise funds for any treatment available that will increase his chances of survival . If Theo were to relapse, which is common in children with high risk neuroblastoma, we want him to have access to a wide range of clinical trials, including those not currently available in the UK.
Update- We are raising funds for DFMO. It is a drug available in America that aims to prevent relapsed neuroblastoma. It is part of a clinical trial and has already shown some promising results. We will hopefully be taking Theo to America as soon as he finishes treatment here in the UK.
Update- Thanks to all of you wonderful people supporting Theo over the last 16 months, we now have enough raised to enable Theo to have the DFMO drug in America. Theo has enough money to get him over there over the next two years, for the drug itself and also for any extra costs that may arise. Therefore, fundraising for Theo will stop in the next week or so.
Thankyou to each and every single one of you that have fundraised and donated to Theo to allow him this opportunity to hopefully save his life. We will never be able to thankyou enough for what you have done, for the love you have shown and the strength you have given us to carry on.
