Feeding Familes - North East

Some years ago I was poor. My children only got a Christmas present that year because my mother gave me some money to help me out. I was living for a week on a big bag of pasta and Christmas only added more worry to my woes. I’ve moved on from that but never forgotten it.
Last year I bought a huge ham for Christmas but when it arrived my husband and I realised we would never get through it so we advertised for a needy family who didn’t have a Christmas dinner. We gave away the ham, but also we opened a floodgate of other families who were really struggling. We filled the supermarket trolley and then went to as many as we could just offering some food, a word of hope and encouragement and hopefully giving a little Christmas joy.
We met a lady who had wrapped up empty boxes for her children because there were no presents and the retired grandmother, struggling to bring up two children because her daughter was an addict, the lady with depression struggling to hold her family together. It was a drop in the ocean but it was something.
i am an avid supporter of food banks and they meet a need but there are others who don’t fit those criteria but are as much in need. Having said this, other people want to help so I say let’s start a movement in the north east this Christmas to help our neighbours who have less than us.
Im starting a Facebook page so people can share the message and connect with each other, and a gofundme page if people want to give money. Any gift will be used to help local people to not see Christmas as a burden but to feel the love and care that the great people of the north have for each other. Let’s all rise up together and make the world a better place!
