Hello,
My name is Amari. I am the middle child of a wonderful, strong, beautiful woman named Tonie Jones.
Since I was a baby she has taught me that no matter what obstacles you go through you can make it out alive. She has proven that by raising my two sisters and me by herself. That alone was no easy task, and she did this while working in Corporate America. Then with the pure strength I didn't know she had, my mother, after being laid off, went back to school to pursue her dreams. She showed me that it really is never too late to pursue your dreams.
In the beginning of March, news rocked our world. My mom was diagnosed with Stage Four Invasive Breast Cancer. It was a shock to me because the news hit when I was on a school trip. I remember not seeing my mom cry or anything, but telling us that she was strong and could get through this. As we go through the chemo treatments, radiation and then surgery, we need help.
My mom is the only financial support this family has. With her in and out of work due to chemo treatments, doctors visits, blood draws and the pain and side effects chemo brings, it has been difficult. She stills tries to work, but sometimes it leads to her coming home early, leaving us with reduced income. Mom works as an Esthetican and Makeup Artist at a very busy downtown Salon. She is paid by commission only and, her job does not offer a short or long term disability pay option. In short, when she is not able to work she does not receive pay. It is diffcult to watch her push herself to work when on the days the pain and fatigue is too much all becacuse she is worried about not being able to pay the rent or buy food. Donations would help ease the financial strain and allow her to take days off when she needs to rest without worrying.
Chemo will end soon and our focus will now switch to surgery. Mom will be out of work for several months after surgery. We will need continued help with basic needs. I would love to see Mom not worry so much about our finances and focus more on healing.
