FIRE DESTROYED MORIA REFUGEE CAMP - FIRST AID FOR REFUGEES NEEDED
2 days of fire have completely burned down the whole refugee camp of Moria on the Isle of Lesvos in Greece.
Our refugee school - Wave of Hope for the Future - has unfortunately also been destroyed by the fire, like all the tents and containers that were hosting over 13.000 refugees, among them 4.000 children.
Most of them went living on the streets around the camp, waiting for a place to go, without food, water and their few belongings that were burned in the fire. Many were also blocked in the parking lot of the supermarket Lidl and on the street in front of Kara Tepe camp.
We ask your help to buy first aid materials like food, water, hygiene products and blankets to distribute to refugees during this emergency, whilst we all hope that Europe Parliament will finally do something to end the terrible conditions refugees are facing when they arrive to EU.
We use the funds raised with this campaign to buy food, water, basic hygiene products from a local wholesale distributor based near the camp of Moria. The wholesaler delivers the goods directly inside the premises of the Danish ngo Team Humanity . In Team Humanity the food is also cooked and packed.
The distribution of food and first aid products takes place every day at the premises of Team Humanity, that is based few hundred meters away from the main entrance of what is left of Moria camp.
Our school teachers with our Covid-19 Awareness Team and Team Humanity staff are also distributing food twice a day to the refugees that are still living in the streets and in the jungle around the ex-camp of Moria.
To assist also the refugees that are stuck in the parking of Lidl and on the street in front of Kara Tepe camp, the international staff of our school is also purchasing food and first aid products (including pdi materials) daily from the supermarkets and shops in Mytilini and bring them to refugees there, with the support of the staff of One Happy Family ngo.
Since yesterday, Saturday the 18th of September 2020, many refugees have been transferred to the new camp that was built next to the Kara Tepe one.
Our team of international volunteers of the Wave of Hope for the Future school are starting to buy food from shops in Mytilini and bring it there to be distributed by our teachers and school staff that are already living inside the camp.
We are also trying to coordinate our work with other ngos active on the island like, Lesvos Solidarity and Euro Relief , to be able to make food and first aid products available to refugee inside the new camp daily.
Thank you for the great support your are giving. We look forward to overcome this emergency and put our self at work to rebuild a new Wave of Hope for the Future School soon to continue supporting our refugee community in Lesvos.
