We are seeking community support to finish the renovations on our building so we can open the Evolve Early Learning Preschool and Community Center this Spring!

The "It takes a Village" Grassroots Community Impact FUNdraiser is the last leg of our journey to opening the Evolve Early Learning Preschool and Community Center in Asheville, NC in Summer 2019 . We need paint, floors, fencing, a playground, and 1st months operating costs. Our city is in critical need of high-quality childcare with thousands of children not receiving the support they need.

We will serve up to 60 early learners and their families in our innovative "Ubuntu"  community preschool school. Our model intentionally engages in equitable opportunities for parents and children of color and those experiencing generational poverty because we know, as one person thrives, we all thrive.

In an Ubuntu early learning environment, we expose children to essential human experiences through story, play, experiential learning, relationship, and reflection. In a community that practices self- awareness, and compassion, children learn to value contribution, kindness, and connection instead of competition, fear, and self-doubt. We value high quality and safe environments with connected and close relationships between children, staff, and families. This level of program integration and execution will be life changing for the thousands of students who attend over the years.

Our strength-based systems ensures that "Everyday, in every way, we make sure children feel safe, supported, and valued."

As a kindergarten teacher, I found that many of my students struggled to meet developmental and academic milestones. This caused additional stress, avoidance, self-doubt, frustration, and isolation with peers, teachers, and parents. I knew there had to be a solution to this problem.  I could see the innate brilliance of each child just waiting to be unleashed.

Throughout my 10 years, in the trenches teaching, coaching, working with teachers, parents, and kids, and learning the Empowerment Education Framework created by i.b.mee. (www.ibmee.org) I am ready to lead the Evolve Early Learning Community- a nonjudgemental learning village.

Together, we will tell the experiential story of Evolving Early Learning in Asheville with our online global learning village of parents and teachers.  By connecting to our extended early education community, we can make sure all children experience a lifetime of loving, learning, and leading.

We found our home in a diverse and often forgotten neighborhood of West Asheville.  It was a preschool many years ago and since had been neglected and although it needed work we knew it was the perfect space.

Unfortunately, we uncovered over $50,000 in damage to the foundation, exterior siding, ramps, railings, and other neglected areas we knew our renovation budget was going to only get us so far.

We are thankful that our community and the building owner have rallied around us to get us this far! The foundation is solid and we are in the home stretch!

Donating time (over 300 hrs), talent, and treasure($) to our efforts our community has helped us get closer to our dream of serving our most precious resource...our future citizens.

We need to raise the remaining $20,000 to open our doors to the public and become a 5 Star licensed center. This will allow us to serve high priority students and their families more effectively.

Our neighborhood is one of the most diverse in Asheville and we are excited to be culturally responsive and a second home for our families. Parents should not have to choose between a diverse and empowering learning environment and a high-quality preschool.

We are moving forward every day by finding furniture and putting sweat equity in the building. NOTHING is going to stop us now!

What is the Impact of the Evolve Early Learning Center?

The outcome of our system of care is a solid foundation of citizenship (community and digital), holistic learning, personalized well-being and an embodied experience of loving, learning, and leading that sets the standard for the rest of child's life.

Research shows that empowering early learning interventions and connected family support are key for 3-8 year-olds to have a lifetime of good health, effective relationships, resilience, and feeling worthy and successful.

Communities even prosper from healthy and empowering preschools. In fact, Nobel Prize winning economist James Heckman estimates that for every $1 spent on high-quality preschool for 3- and 4-year-olds, communities save $7 in long-term costs for things like remediation, social supports, or criminal justice.
