Dear Family and Friends,
I
want to let you know that I"˜ve been selected to participate in a really
cool opportunity that I am very excited about. I"˜ve been accepted into
the People to People Ambassador Program.
This program, started by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1956, is
designed to help people of different cultures get to know each other.
They've done a lot of cool things over the past fifty years. They've
done things like meet former President Reagan, meet former Russian
President Mikhail Gorbachev, witness the fall of the Berlin Wall, meet
Queen Elizabeth II, and witness President Obama's inauguration. On this
trip, I will be able to go to Europe during the summer. I'll be going to
Italy, France, and Greece.
I'm really excited about going to these countries because I have read a lot about them in Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The 39 Clues,
two of my favorite book series. Of course, the trip will be educational
too. I will be visiting many historical landmarks and I will get a
chance to actually stay with a local family for a few days to get a real
experience of the people and culture. I will be traveling with 39 other
middle school students that I have never met before so I will be
learning something about my own culture too!
Of
course this experience is not free. The trip costs a little over
$6,500, of which we've already paid $3,400. Thanks to the tremendous generosity of our friends and family, we've raised almost half of the remaining $3,100!
Here's where I could really use your help in the final push for the remaining $1,610. I know this sounds like a lot, and it is, but the experience will be worth it. I would be very grateful to get your financial support. It doesn't have to be a lot, maybe just $25. The trip is scheduled for June 2012 so we don't have that much more time. The final payment is due by May 1, 2012.
