Team Aleph - Evan's Fund

Donation protected

Last year my son Evan and I moved to Israel.  Evan has autism and I was thrilled to be able to provide him with an experience he'd probably never have in his life - to experience and live in another culture.

Since then he has learned Hebrew (something his school told me would be impossible), rides the bus by himself, shops for himself...it's incredible how much independence Jerusalem has given this child!

Unfortunately, since we moved here in 2011, Evan's father and I have gotten divorced.  He cannot afford child support (and even if he could, Evan is almost 20 so I can't legally even ask for any.)  Evan receives a small sum from the US but his social security for his disability has been held up here in Israel and we are barely making it.

My salary pays for our rent.  Evan's small sum from Social Security pays for our food, cell phones, insurance and internet.  That's it.  We don't eat out or buy new clothes.  We are very very careful with our money and try to make it stretch as far as we can.

Now, though, we are in dire need.  I can't pay the rent this month because of an extra deduction in my paycheck last month.  I don't know what we're going to do but I hope maybe you wouldn't mind contributing a few dollars to our cause.

Your money will help me pay for extras like Evan's social skill group, his Israeli Scout activities and his activities in the youth group, Yachad.  It will help me maybe be able to buy a pizza once a month as a treat or a ticket to the museum.  The most important thing your money will do is put food on our table, keep our lights on, help us buy heaters for the winter (we just found out we don't have central heat in our apartment), and keep us in warm clothes.

Evan and I both hate to ask but we also know we give when we can and hope that you will too.  Once we're out of this nightmare and back on our feet, hopefully we can pay your kindness to us forward...and we will.

Thank you so very much from a mom raising an outstanding Jewish boy in the most wonderful place in the world and just needs a little help.

My goal is to have a fund set up for Evan after the immediate financial needs are addressed so that he will have money to cover expenses as he gets older.  This, of course, would be administered by a guardian but through your generosity, Evan's future will be much more secure.

Evan is a wonderfully sweet boy who thrives in the company of others.  He has a heart that is so big it's hard to imagine.  If he sees someone in need of help, even carrying a shopping bag up the stairs of our apartment, he runs to help.  He loves to wear tefillin because he thinks this is an antenna to G-d.   He knows we are in a tight financial spot but he says to me, "Don't worry Mom, at least we have each other."

And we always will.
