In the days following this most recent senseless tragedy in Las Vegas, many of us are coming to grips with and learning of so many sad stories.
We are all learning how many lives have been touched by this horrific event. We did not need a close friend to be harmed in order to feel the full shock of what took place. Yet, we learned our close friend Eric Barela, father of three was among the hundreds of people injured.
Eric was attending the concert with his friend Paul. The evening started out with smiles and high expectations of a good time with friends. Unfortunately, we all know how the evening ended instead.
Within a few seconds of the shooting beginning, the reality of what was happening quickly became apparent. The sight of people falling and the loud pops of the bullets passing by and hitting the ground sent everyone into a panic. Eric was able to lunge over a bar to take what there was available for shelter, but not before he was shot. While he cannot walk without assistance right now, the surgeon believes he will make a full recovery, which we are all very thankful for.
There are of course many heartbreaking stories. Even writing about this now is so confusing. How can we ask for help for just one person when so many are suffering? There is a fund set up for all victims, which many of you may have seen or donated to already. Unfortunately it is not clear how or when or to whom that money will be distributed.
Eric needs our help, he is going to need months to recover from the physical and emotional injuries of this event. We are hoping to raise $15,000 to help Eric pay his medical bills as well living expenses as he works hard to rehab and get back to his old self and back to work.
If you have something to give, we would truly be grateful. We pray for brighter days and healing.
