On February 15, 2017 Eric and Roxanne LaManna welcomed the arrival of their daughter; a few hours later doctors reached a diagnosis for him of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Due to the diagnosis, Eric was immediately admitted to the hospital, missing the chance to be home to see his son officially become a big brother when he met his new sister.

Eric has been unable to work since February as a result of the treatment schedule and side effects. He may not be able to return to work until the end of this year at the earliest. When he isn't at the hospital for treatments he is home with his family, while Roxanne has been a stay-at-home mom since their son was born. This diagnosis has rocked their lives considerably - they had no idea anything so serious was wrong with Eric, and never in a million years would have thought this could happen on their daughter's birthday. Eric's first day of treatment, which was also his first day of chemo, fell on his 29th birthday. Eric has managed to generally keep up a good spirit, always striving to find something to smile or laugh about in all of this. At this point, Eric has gotten through a bit over half of his heavy treatments, but he has couple years of maintenance treatments until he is finished.
