On March 25, we lost Emmanuel after a four month battle. Emmanuel had many labels placed on him during his short fourteen years-
Deaf, Blind, Autistic, Disabled.
Many people who met Emmanuel dismissed him within these labels, but if you were some of the few that could push past those, you got to meet the amazing person Emmanuel was. You got to see some of his other labels-
Smart, Funny, Stubborn, Friendly, Inquisitive, Full of Himself, Happy
Emmanuel might have lived in a world that did not understand him, but he never let that stop him. He found happiness daily, especially when he was around people. He loved being with his family and with his friends at school. He stopped and talked with as many people as he could, even when they didn't know sign language. His favorite question to ask anyone was "What's your favorite color?" When the answer was green (his favorite) you could see his disbelief and hear his infectious laugh which could only make you smile as well.
Emmanuel found joy in the simplest things we often take for granted: pizza, school buses, chocolate, dogs, cheese and elevators. He was a force every time he walked into a room and will be missed by many. The wold is a little sadder without Emmanuel in it, but for those of us who knew him he has left a lasting imprint on our hearts.
We are asking for funds to help support the family to give Emmanuel a burial service. To provide a sense of closure and a place to spend time with Emmanuel throughout the years.
