I know we all have wants, but I have a friend in need. Though I met Emmanuel three years ago while teaching in the UAE, our circumstances were, and are still, very different. He’s been working in Abu Dhabi as a security guard for the past five years, supporting his family back home in Bamenda, Cameroon (Africa). Taking financial care of his widowed sister, her five children, and his parents while living on another continent has been no small task, but he has done so with determination and grace. Emmanuel works six 12-hour night shifts per week, lives in shared housing, and takes public transportation to and from work. He’s one of the most selfless people I’ve ever come to know and love, so we’ve kept in contact since I moved home to Chicago last year. Last month, he not only had to unexpectedly fly home because his father had passed away, but he’s also responsible for the funeral expenses, which amount to far more than he can cover.
If you have even $5 left in your Christmas budget, please consider donating to his cause. No one should have to move thousands of miles from home to care for family with no end in sight.
Thanks for reading and happy holidays to all!
