Lead poisoning and abatement

Donation protected

My name is Will. My wife Brittany and I recently found out that our beautiful 1905 Victorian gave both myself and my 20mo daughter Emma lead poisoning. Thanks to the federal law for lead tests in every child at one year old we found out early. To say the least we have been very scared and nervous since the day we found out. The unknown of what could happen to her from this is very nerve racking.
First thing we did was to completely move my wife and daughter out of the home and into the in-laws house. The Health Dept. was automatically notified and sent down to evaluate exactly what caused this case. Turns out because of the age of my home there were many layers of lead paint in all the trim, doors and windows. This left us feeling very helpless.
We currently live on my income alone, and that only just covers the mortgage. I try to help out more by doing  work around the house but still leaves very little in the way of helping us get back into our home in a timely fasion. I had made several calls to contractors to take care of the abatement, most would not come once they knew the health dept. was involved. The one guy that came would not even take the job on because of the size and scope of the work that needed to be done. I was very lucky that the Dept. of health allowed me to become certified and do the removal myself. Thank God for a strong network of friends and family we have been able to get a large amount done in a short time ( been doing it since Jan 1st 2016).
Although doing the work ourselves has saved us on the cost of labor, materials and things like electric for lights and equipment to remove that lead are very expensive. We tried going through the home insurance, only to be denied. Saying it was not covered in our policy at all. The major issue now is that I have been spending every waking night  on the house I have not had any free time for overtime at work. I also had to take the past 2 semesters off of school from SBU where I am only 20 credits away from my BS degree.
The work going on in the home requires large amounts of electricity, materials, and safety equipment to keep the help safe from lead poising. Because of this our bills have been piling up, we have no more money for the materials like sand paper, nails, paint, etc. to complete the work.
Our goal is to be back in the home by Emma’s 2nd birthday. It would mean the world to my wife. A women
that feels helpless not being able to help in any more of a way than to just watch and care for Emma. Your donation would alleviate a large burden of stress, and help get this family back to what it is best. A family. So for that I want to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to read this and hopefully donate. It means to world to Emma, Brittany and Will.

Thank You.
