My Service Trip to Guatemala!

Hello friends and family! I hope you all had the happiest of holidays and I wish you an exciting and healthy New Year!
As I'm sure a lot of you already know, three of my biggest passions in life are working with children, exploring new cultures and giving back. So when I found out that my school participates in an annual two-week service trip to Guatemala every May, I knew I had to figure out a way to go. I cannot express how excited and fortunate I am to announce that I have been accepted to go on this trip along side ten other Saint Rose students.
For the majority of the 2 weeks, we will be volunteering in an elementary school in Antigua, where we will be painting and giving the school much needed repair, assisting the teachers as well as helping the students learn English. We will be staying with local families and experiencing their culture first hand.
Unfortunately, the cost of such an endeavor is steep. Due to the poor economic conditions of the school's community, we students must individually raise the funds to cover the necessary costs involved in this mission, as well as the materials and supplies needed to achieve our goals of fixing up the school.
I know that this post holiday time of year is tricky, financially, for most of us. I was hoping that if I was able to collect even the smallest of donations from my family and friends is would be a tremendous help to this worthy cause. In this way, I hope you realize that you are directly helping to improve the lives of these children in need… You have my word on that. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you all as soon as I return.
