Emergency Colic Surgery for Seven

Since 2013, Seven, has become part of my family. As many of you can relate, pets hold a special place in your heart. He is frequently the topic of conversation and the gentle giant brings a smile to my face like no other creature can. When you cannot find me, I'm spending countless hours with him at the barn!

On June 4, I had a close scare with my four-legged best friend. After his breakfast, he was found violently thrashing around in his stall. Upon an emergency exam by his local vet, it was decided that he needed to be rushed to Marion DuPont Scott Equine Medical Center due to a severe case of colic. Once at the hospital, they found a blockage in his small intestine. Unfortunately, horses do not have a gag reflex nor are they able to regurgitate their food making any major blockage in their digestive track fatal, if not caught swiftly.

Emergency surgery was his only chance of survival. The procedure lasted for three hours. The equine surgeon removed the blockage and 10 feet of his small intestine. Seven was placed in ICU on a feeding tube. At the moment he is in stable condition, but faces an extended stay in the hospital on his journey to recovery. No visitors are allowed during the pandemic. Updates are provided through the pictures from the vets and staff.

Vet bills and medical expenses are quickly adding up. Seven is uninsured and I am paying for this out of pocket. I am asking for your help in covering a portion of the cost. All collected funds will go directly towards the hospital bill.
