Elma School breakfast program
Donation protected
During a recent volunteer tour to Siem Reap Cambodia, I saw first hand the challenges a Cambodian child faces daily. The Elma School for English has approximately 400 students (many village children are not able to attend because of lack of teachers and classrooms). The school is completely supported through donations as the Cambodian government does not fund English programs. Teachers salaries are meagre and teachers are supported by volunteers through the “We Are Bamboo” foundation. .
All children who attend Elma School are impoverished, many are orphans. Yet you would not know that by their daily enthusiasm, their desire to learn and their endless smiles and gratitude. They are eager to learn English as it will be their vehicle to help them escape poverty by getting jobs in the tourism industry.
Many children come to school on empty stomachs. In Canada we have many breakfast programs funded by our government and charitable donations, to help underprivileged children and I could see how very much such a program would help these beautiful children.
The cost of running a program that would feed 200 of the most needy children a nourishing breakfast every day at school is $12,000 US. The director of the Elma School is grossly over burdened and short staffed and I want to help him raise awareness and bring attention to the plight of these beautiful gentle children.
Please give what you can afford. The cost of a Starbucks coffee can feed a child for a week. All monies collected will go directly to the Elma School and will be used solely to fund a breakfast program. The program will be overseen by the Bamboo Foundation who will provide reports of all expenditures.
I will personally match all donations up to $6000.
Thank you so much for your donation!
