For forty years, Duke Ellington School of the Arts has been the difference, upholding its mission of providing an exemplary arts and academic education to talented youth who may not otherwise have that opportunity. The Ellington Cares Campaign is a way for you to be the difference by supporting our students' artistic and academic journey at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Imagine, you can help to cultivate young people so that they become leading scholars, artists and citizens of our community and the world! With a graduation rate of 99% (the highest in the District) and a college acceptance rate of 95%, Ellington is proof of what it means to successfully educate young people for the 21st century.

Black Boys Rock the Arts! Another Round!

Truth: At Duke Ellington, the black male graduation rate is 92.3%. Art Saves Lives.
On Saturday, February 1st, 100 young African-American male students were afforded the opportunity to see and enjoy a world renowned musical, Three Mo' Tenors as well as a reception and talk back with succesful African-American artists and activists, thanks to you. On May 2nd @ 7:30pm and May 4th @ 4pm, we'd like to sponsor them again for another round of heartfelt and informative artistic engagement focused on the topic of fathers and sons. Word Becomes Flesh, using poetry, dance, and live music, documents nine months of pregnancy from a young, single father's perspective, letters to his unborn son. Bamuthi's landmark work has been recreated for a cast of nine performers. The work deconstructs black male identity in the 21st century with deep honesty and raw physicality. There will be a talk back at the end of the performance presented at The Ellington Theatre as part of the 40th Season festival.

If you would like to help support this event, please contribute $50 for two boys. Tickets are $25 per child. If you would like to attend the reception and show, please select "Mentor and Mentee" ($60), which will include two (2) tickets and reception immediately following the show. Bring your sons or young mentees to this unforgetable experience. We suggest ages 14 and up. If you would like to remain anonymous, please indicate in the comment section.
