Elle B.'s Recovery Room

To all the people that Elle B. knew at Elaine's:

As Alex mentioned this week, our friend Elle B. Willson took quite a spill two weeks ago and broke multiple bones in her legs. She had two surgeries; including one that involved inserting multiple metal plates in her right leg, and then bolting her leg together with a drill to hold the bones in place. She spent a few harrowing days in the ER (yes, the ER...for days) in a hallway, without pain killers; and several days in the hospital before and after the surgery. She is home now, with large casts on both legs. She cannot walk, and will not be for some time. I went to visit her today. Her sweet mother flew in from Denver and is taking care of her, as Elle B. is literally incapacitated for the time being. She is in good spirits with a positive outlook, and remains optimistic!

Once she's able to be mobile, she is equipped with a wheelchair and a walker (sans tennis balls). She will be relying for months on taxi cabs. I can only imagine the difficulty she'll have trying to isolate her leg while hailing cabs, putting her chair and walker in the cab, and getting where she needs to be. She undoubtably has a challenging year in front of her.

As she was sharing this with me, I began to understand the emotional and financial gravity of her situation - lost work, possible medical issues not covered by insurance, transportation, among other things. I thought, it's going to be difficult enough for her to get herself around once she's able, wouldn't it be a relief if she didn't have to think about the added expense that cabs (and other expenses) will cost - this will undoubtably add up to a hefty bill.

So I thought I might be able to reach out to our mutual friends - the people that we knew at Elaine's (she and I met there) and see if we can help the lady out - after all, she has warmed our hearts so much by the twinkle in her eyes, her sweet smile, and her beautiful voice singing Over the Rainbow. Once her mom returns to Denver, she'll be on her own, to negotiate the world; a daunting prospect, I imagine. She would be so surprised, overwhelmed with warmth, and relieved to know she is supported by her friends during this challenging and painful time. Helping her even a little will go a long way for our Elle B.

Thank you for listening and contributing in any way that you can, large or petite, it's a wonderful way to support her at any size.

PS Donations can be made anonymously if you wish when prompted during processing, or sign your name for pride and posterity!

Many thanks.
