My name is Tyler, I have Chiari Type 1 and Syringomyelia. Between the 2, cysts grow on my spinal cord continuously and uncontrollably. I have had 5 spinal cords surgeries to drain and control the cysts, but any surgery on the spinal cord is a double edged sword as anytime you touch or cut into the spinal cord your causing damage as well. Ive also had 3 surgeries on my brain. The first was to insert a drain called a VP Shunt to drain excess spinal fluid from my brain into my stomach, the second was to remove a small part of the back of my skull to relieve the pressure on my brain because my cerebellum was herniated. The third was a revision of the VP Shunt to replace it with one that could drain faster.
Now these cysts on my spinal cord cannot be removed, only drained. I've had this done 5 times and while these surgeries had extended my life, they have cause irreversible damage causing me to become paralyzed. I properly use my legs and am unable to walk anymore. I also can not feel anything other than my left arm, neck and head. The rest of my body has either no feeling at all or can feel like a slight pressure, and since I can't feel my right had at all and being right handed, I can not use my right hand as well.
Now I'm writing this to raise funds to get a wheelchair ramp and other wheelchair related equipment so that I can safely get down my stairs. Ive already had 1 accident were my Aunt and I fell down the stairs in my chair and I unfortunately broke my back. So having a ramp and maybe a lift for the van would help my Mother and Aunt as they aren't in the greatest of health either while also caring for me full time, because I try to be as independent as possible, there are just things I can't do unfortunately.
So my hope is that this will take a giant burden off my family and also help me be able to go outside and get to doctors appointments safely. Being stuck inside not being able to leave my house without calling an ambulance really sucks, I'd like to get fresh air and go out and have some normalcy back in my life, and my hope is that there are people like you whi would be willing to help in that endeavor. Any help in my case would be greatly appreciated and you'd also have all the love from the bottom of my heart and also my families. Its generous people like you that make wishes come true! ❤❤❤ so thank you for reading my story. To all those who donate or already have, you have all my thanks and gratitude! I really mean that, you people are truly amazing!!!
